Memory Landscapes

In this body of work, Natascha explores a new technique and process, augmenting the Suminagashi practice to create individual and contemporary landscape pieces.

Born out of residual oil inks on the water surface, in these works the paper is placed in the bath at the very end of the inks life. In this way the piece has absorbed the memory of previous pieces. Whilst creating her work, Natascha would always notice, after multiple uses, the water would produce an unusual pattern. It would change and shift by moving the paper across the surface, creating ethereal landscapes.

Natascha's approach of scale, colour, and technique is an exploration of this traditional art form, pushing its boundaries and introducing new dimensions. Natascha uses the roots of this intuitive craft to bring natural elements and scenery into her marbling pieces, offering viewers a fresh perspective on traditional landscape depictions.

With Memory Landscapes, Natascha has produced a series of marvellously intricate mother-earth landscapes. Depicting mountains, ancient rocks, even vast desert plains.

Her attention to detail and ability to capture the essence of a place through marbling is commendable, as it adds a distinctive and rarely achieved aspect to the craft of marbling.
